she comes crawling out of the craftwork, hands shaking and full of unease.

wishing that i could provide the warmth and comfort she needs, i realize that i'm just as frail as she is.

the difference being that i brought her down to me, so that we were wallowing in our own separate miseries, together.

knowing that it's too late, i feed her white lies in an amorous attempt to make her feel whole again.

for her to be complete, completely.

she holds the key and keeps it locked behind her teeth.

safe, sovereign, secure.

i place the outward side of my hand on her neck and watch as she shuts her eyes and tilts her head whilst conjuring an enchanting grin.

i feel her radiance travel through my hand and illuminate my soul.

she is beauty, personified.

a tiny burst of air upstream shifts the silk strands off her eyes.

butterfly kisses with raw, unfiltered intent.

the all-encompassing oscillations of our energies meld into a singular mass.

"i can't go on for much longer," with a pleading sense of the utmost urgency.

"we're on this sinking ship, together," she says with comfort and clarity.

"everything here is wrong," i'm starting to lose my composure as the world drops away from sight.

"they are, but we aren't," she tells me this without breaking eye contact. sight lines from eye to eye.

she is the only thing keeping me grounded in the calamitous current. an anchor that provides stability while being a beacon that burns bright.

she is the siren that sings the song of our shipwreck.
